Clean and green geothermal energy, provided by Sinopec Green Energy Geothermal (SGE), plays an important role in preservating the wetlands located in the middle of Xiong‘an New Economic Area.
Xiong‘an area holds one of the biggest geothermal reserves in North China and the geothermal energy is used to heat up houses over the winter time. In recent years geothermal has replaced coal as the major energy source to provide heat in winter.
Benefits of converting to geothermal is not just clean air. According to Qian Zhangtun that lives in Xiongxian, one of the three counties that was designated as part of the Xiong’an New Area, geothermal has cut his heating cost down by half.
